Precognition
Have you ever known, with certainty, future events?
There are several times in my life that the future has been shown to me. Most times it's just silly things like having an obscure song rolling around in my head and turning on the radio and hearing that song playing... and having the radio and my head perfectly in synch. Other times it's serious...
Take the Challenger disaster. I was working near the Space Center and had been having bad dreams for weeks before the launch. A few days before the launch, I had a dream where I was standing on a balcony and seven pairs of eyes fell from the sky and rolled past my feet. As I turned to follow them, two small children screamed, "Mommy!". I woke in a cold sweat with the childrens' cry echoing in the room and a certainty on the fate of the Challenger. I told two friends about it before the launch and tried to get them not to watch the launch. Working right across the river from the launch site made it hard to find excuses not to watch. You cannot imagine how difficult it is to watch with waking eyes the nightmares you thought you would only dream.
Throughout my life, dreams of disembodied eyes is a sign of death. When my mother sees a bride in her dreams, that is her signal that someone will die.
Not all precognitive signs are concrete or visual; sometimes things just feel wrong.
I used to ride a motorcycle. I loved it. One day I went to get on it and I couldn't. As I got close to it, I would break out in a cold sweat. There was no basis for my fear and I tried to convince myself that I was being silly but I sold the bike anyway. A year later, I went to buy a Motorcycle Trader magazine to start looking for another bike and the 7-11 near my apartment was sold out. There were a dozen different places within a mile of where I lived where I could get one so I jumped in the car and headed off to one. I could have gone to any and had no particular reason for choosing this one. As I headed into the store, I heard a squeal of tires and a crash. I turned around and saw only one car in the road. Then I looked further down the road and saw the motorcycle ... and further down was the unmoving form of the driver. Cars were stopping and people were gathering so I just got back in my car and went home without the magazine.
Several months ago, I had the same reaction to the paramotor. Bad dreams and an unnatural, unfounded aversion to it. Yes, it was irrational but I couldn't bring myself to strap on the motor and go fly. I started making excuses and even got close to selling it.
I have been monotoring my dreams and watching for signs of trouble but whatever it was seems to have passed. I will continue to watch and exercise the utmost caution when flying but I think that it is time to get back into the air.
